Frequently Asked Questions

Are there any other JROTC units in the district?
No, we (AFJROTC) are the only one in the Forney ISD.
How many instructors are there?
We are authorized two instructors.
Do you have to have a certain grade average to get into AFJROTC?
No
Do you need a physical to join AFJROTC?
No
What grade do you have to be in to join JROTC?
Any grade in high school, 9th thru 12th. In the event there is a schedule conflict that prevents you from registering for AFJROTC the first semester of your freshman year, you may enroll in it the second semester or even another year.
How Do I Sign up?
Sign up for AFJROTC just like any other class when you sign up for the rest of your freshman classes for the 2024/2025 school year.
Is this an elective credit?
Yes. You receive both PE and elective credit
Does this interfere with other activities like sports, band, choir, etc.?
No. We work with your class schedule. In fact, we have many students who are involved in various sports teams, the band, choir, culinary arts, and many more.
How much time does AFJROTC take up after school?
The time spent on AFJROTC depends on how much you or your Cadet is involved. We also have a lot of events outside of class, and while participation is highly encouraged, these events are optional. These include community service events, parties, and before/after school extracurricular events. We find that students who get involved in AFJROTC typically enjoy these extra events and attend as much as their schedules allow.

We have 2 mandatory outside-of-class events per year; the Military Ball or Combat Dining In, which is usually in February, and the Awards Ceremony, which is usually in April.
